Good morning!  #FeelTheBuzz – Back to the Daily Grind is kicking off Monday morning with a new filter coffee in our Richmond shop, made with Climpson & Sons Kenya Peaberry.  This is a single origin selection from the Tatu Estate, Ruiru.

The Peaberry is a fully washed, lightly roasted Arabica coffee.  It is amazingly sweet and fruity with a medium body and caramel flavours.  We’re loving it just as it is, there’s no milk or sugar required for this one!

What does Peaberry mean?

The cherry fruit of the coffee plant normally contains two seeds (“beans”) that develop with flattened facing sides, but sometimes only one of the two seeds is fertilized, and the single seed develops with nothing to flatten it. This oval (or pea-shaped) bean is known as peaberry or also caricoli.  Typically around 5% of all coffee beans harvested are of this form and need to be hand selected and separated from the rest of the harvest during sorting.
